DIVISION TWO

OLD SCOTCH CC 8/206 (32)

def. CAULFIELD/NCG 8/97 (32) (bonus point)

H Longbottom 60, C Hocking 4/23

The Second XI finally kicked off their campaign for season 2022/23 on a cold, wet Sunday afternoon. After an initial rain delay, the reduced 32 over game commenced at 1.30pm.

Batting first we scored freely and with ease, wasting no time in racing to a competitive score. Despite the early loss of both openers, Eddie Shearer (45) and Hugh Longbottom’s (60 off 35) partnership of 95 saw us race to 3/121 when Shearer fell. From there a number of players chipped in with scores in the teens, to see us reach one of our strongest scores of 8/206 after the completion of the 32 overs. Generally speaking, this is a score the twos would relish after 40 overs, so in a reduced game, the team was full of confidence.

The team was clinical with the ball. Each individual bowler performed and ensured we raced through our overs to avoid any chance of a wash out. Special mention must go to the gamebreaker, Charlie Hocking (4/23 off 7) who dominated with the ball to decimate the Caulfield line up. At the completion of the 32 overs Caulfield were 8/97, with the team securing a 100 run win, a bonus point and climbing to the top of the ladder.

The guys travel to St Kilda road next week to face Old Wesley in what promises to be a strong contest.
