OLD SCOTCH 1XI 4/99 (15)

def. PEGS 98 (36.4)

H. FRANCIS 25, W. CLARK 17*, S. SHEARER 4/17, W. BONWICK 4/19

On Sunday we lost the toss and were bowling first again. Up against PEGS again we had another good opportunity to BP if we bowled well and we certainly did that. Sam S picked up where he left off last week with a wicket on his first ball and continued his strong form with the a strong 2nd ended with 4/17. Our stand out bowler was Will Bonwick who took 4/19 through the middle with big wickets through the middle. Yet again our entire bowling group were impressive with patient lines and lengths building pressure and forcing the opposition to make the error. We were lucky enough to witness 2 candidates for catch of the year with Mike Sparks taking an on the run hanger and Sam Goodwill jumping up at mid off to pluck an unlikely ball with his left hand. We would end our 1st innings bowling PEGS out for 98.

Rolling into the batting innings, it was a simple equation. 98 runs in 20 overs for the BP. We would cruise to this in 15 overs with the top 6 all chipping in with 10-20ish runs with Hamish Francis leading the way at the top with 25. Another convincing win from the 1s. We now look to OMs on the Main oval to finish our year off before the Christmas break.

OLD SCOTCH 2XI 163 (38.5)

def. by OLD CAMBERWELL 3/164 (33.3)

C. SCHILLING 55, F. O'BRIEN 22, N. BUCKLEY 1/19, J. STAVRIS 1/22

The 2XI faced Old Camberwell in a tough encounter, winning the toss and opting to bat first. Unfortunately, the innings fell short, with the team being dismissed for just 163 runs. Schilling was the standout performer with a gritty 55, but he found little support as wickets fell around him. Flynn O’Brien was the other key contributor with 22.

In reply, Bennett, Buckley, and Loveridge worked tirelessly with the ball, but Old Camberwell’s number 3 played a dominant role, smashing an impressive 110. Despite the best efforts of the bowlers, Old Camberwell gained control and comfortably chased down the target.

OLD SCOTCH 3XI 8/174 (40)

def. WHITEFRIARS 87 (27.1)

M. GRIFFITHS 40, F. STRONG 37* & 4/7, B. MAKOWSKI 3/5, C. SMITH 2/20

The 3rd XI played out at Whitefriars and won the toss electing to bat. The pitch was soft early proving difficult for the openings batsmen due to varying bounce and the slow nature of the wicket. Griffo managed to dig deep opening producing an impressive 40 run total whilst the pitch hardened up making it easier for Bennett 24 and Strong 37* to bat on. Gary Bennett and Charlie Smith both provided handy runs helping us set a total of 8-174.

Whitefriars got off to a solid start which felt unusual as we typically gather a handful of early wickets. Parsons got our first wicket which saw Smith and Strong tear through the middle order whilst Makowski cleaned up the tail. With Whitefriars all out for 87 we secure yet another bonus point.

— Nic Bennett (3XI Captain)
